Review:

Do you remember that Hefty trash bag commercial? The one that goes “wimpy, wimpy, wimpy – hefty, hefty, hefty!” As I walked around trying to find a hefty lunch, my inner hungry voice bellowed much like that guy on the commercial. After weeks on this adventure, my options are dwindling and while I’m not a picky eater, I kind of had to be. I couldn’t do Mexican, Mediterranean, sushi, brunch, hippie healthy stuff, Asian, or fusion American because I’ve tried it all! One thing I haven’t tried though was something ooey, gooey, hot and ridiculously comforting – a cheese steak.

Darin and I both came to the conclusion that this was going to be a bangin’ lunch because the aroma coming out of the truck was euphoric. So their name says original. But is it? #AreYouLegit Sometimes it’s false advertising. Like in the movie Elf when Buddy goes to the diner where he’s convinced they have “the world’s best cup of coffee” just because they say so. However Clevelanders, this is not the case here. In the 1980s, owner Bill Fromholzer (Billy from Philly) Jr.’s family owned and operated three Laspada’s Original Steaks & Hoagies sandwich shops in the Philly area. They are still in operation today and wildly popular. In 2010, The Original Steaks & Hoagies branched out to northeast Ohio in Twinsburg. They are the only authentic steak and hoagie shop. They earn the right to say they are authentic and original because their roots are indeed legit.

When someone asks me, “I have good news and bad news, which do you want to hear first?” I always want the bad news first. So here’s the bad news. Let’s just say I may have gotten my cheese steak quicker if I actually drove to Philly. I don’t like complaining; I know what it’s like on the flip side. But that’s how you improve with constructive criticism! I was a server for five years and am a bartender. So trust me when I say I know you are doing your best and some things are out of your control. If you encounter a wait at any truck, be patient because they are doing their best, savor the moment and savor the flavors! #IStillLoveYou Here comes the good news though! It was well worth the wait! #alliteration It was everything that I was hoping it would be melted into one. The steak was delicious and you can tell it was soaked in seasoning. Nothing was competing with each other and each ingredient had a purpose. The beer battered fries were awesome. And thank you for having vinegar! #clutch Another positive note: while I was waiting for my glorious cheese steak, I hopped over to Donut Lab and munched on seriously the best mini donuts I’ve EVER had. I’m not exaggerating. It was like eating a cloud covered in cinnamon sugar. #InHeaven And the conveyer belt that makes the donuts is pretty stellar. Gold star for originality!
